Life is AWESOME. I am Happy. Happy. Happy. I look like a super model when I wake up, my business is flourishing beyond what I ever dreamed possible, my kids are so kind and sweet to everyone they connect with, especially my husband and me. I wear the most amazing clothes and my body is pretty freaking great too. People who love me and want to be me surround me. My life could be a movie.
Let’s get real. My life is not what I described above. I am normal—I’m a Life Coach, a wife, a mom, a woman and small business owner. I don’t do well at making time for myself. I yell and get mad, My kids are kids—sometimes they’re nice, sometimes they’re not. I work in my sweats and slippers most days each week. I dream of a flourishing business. People who love me surround me—but I choose to disregard most of the kind, sweet things I hear. I am stuck in a rut of comparing myself to other people. I want more but am afraid or maybe not secure enough to make it happen. I share more with strangers on my FaceBook posts about how I’m feeling than I do with my family sometimes. My life is not a movie, but I do believe it’s real life.
Being stuck sucks! Seriously. Sucks. It’s like a snowball effect, at least in my opinion. When you’re stuck in one area of your life, you focus on that—the lack, what you don’t have and then it rolls into everything else until it’s a giant ball weighing you down. You lay on the couch, watch hours on end of stupid TV reruns, eat mindlessly and get mad at the drop of a hat. Or, maybe that’s just me.
How do you know if you’re stuck? Noticing where you are in your life and where you want to be is a good way to take note. Are you happy? Are you content and moving in the direction you want? Do you see all the good around you and cheer others on when they’re succeeding? If not, I’d say there’s a good chance you’re stuck.
How do you get unstuck is a question that has been going through my mind the past couple of days. Here are a few steps I’m taking that I wanted to share with you:
- Ask yourself, what do I want for me—this week, this month, this year? My answer, connection. I want to connect with myself—mind, body and spirit.
- Now that you know what you want, how can you begin to create it? Make a list and then break it down to very small steps. For me, I am making a list of one thing I want to do that brings a smile to my face each day. And, one thing to grow my business each day as well.
- Share how you’re feeling with someone you trust and love and ask them to be there to offer support, motivation and accountability to help you move forward.
- Realize that change takes time and commitment. You didn’t wake this morning where you are today. You’re not going to wake up tomorrow a different person. It takes time.
- Be kind to yourself.
A friend who knows my struggles sent me this beautiful picture for Christmas. When I read it, big tears rolled down my cheeks. It says:
“Maybe being brave is no more than staring down the ‘less than’ feeling and stepping up to the ‘I am worthy feeling.”
I am worthy of living a life that could be a movie. And, so are you. Let’s do this. Let’s make this year our best ever.
